We’ve already ranked the seven Harry Potter books on this blog, but the movies are an entirely different, though just as great, experience. When I was in high school, I had a tradition of watching all eight movies while studying for midterm exams. I’m not sure if I recommend it as the best study tactic, but it sure was a good stress reliever. There are few things more relaxing and comforting than curling up with a blanket and watching these movies. I will continue to watch all these movies for an endless amount of time in my life, but there are some that I think are inherently better than others, so let’s rank them all! 8. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix How can you take the longest book of the series and put it into one of the shortest movies without missing key details? You can’t. The Order of the Phoenix movie had the chance to keep the momentum going after a fantastic Goblet of Fire film. There certainly was plenty of content for the script to work with, bu...
Superheros are nothing without supervillains. In fact, a villain can often make or break a certain movie. It’s why The Dark Knight is one of the best superhero movies ever made while the likes of Thor: The Dark World fall flat. The Marvel comics have some legendary villains, so which are the best they brought to the MCU? 10. Namor (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) Marvel had huge shoes to fill in Black Panther 2 with the loss of Chadwick Boseman and the following up of one of the all-time great superhero movies in Black Panther . Part of what made the first movie so great was a fantastic villain who we’ll see later on this list, so if they had any hope in replicating that success they needed another great one for Wakanda Forever . While Namor isn’t on Killmonger’s level, he serves as a complicated villain with a history of being hurt and hurting others. His extended interactions with Shuri and the dynamic between them show the complexity of the decisions they have to make as leade...
Unintentionally, all of the tiers in this ranking mirror each other. There are exactly 17 movies in the lower three tiers and upper three. There are also 4 movies in S Tier and 4 in F tier. I think this balance makes sense since I wasn’t too critical in the F Tier, but very exclusive in S Tier. These are movies that rise to the highest degree of MCU storytelling and importance. Worst in Tier: Iron Man 3 (2013) Tony Stark once said to Peter Parker, “If you’re nothing without the suit, then you shouldn’t have it.” He could only say that because he proved it in Iron Man 3 first. This movie once again shows Tony’s humanity as he struggles with PTSD from the Battle of New York and growing anxiety over where the path he was on would lead him. It feels like at this point he already knew one day he’d die as an Avenger, but that doesn’t stop him from going toe to toe with the Mandarin and Aldrich Killian. The destruction of his house symbolizes the end of his playboy lifestyle as he...
